A Solomon Islands plantation owner, David Sheldon becomes ill from blackwater fever following the death of many of his field hands from the disease. Joan Lackland, a female soldier of fortune, arrives by schooner in the islands. Enlisting the aid of her Kanaka crew, she defends Sheldon from an attack by the natives, led by Googomy. Joan becomes David's business partner after nursing him back to health and helps protect his mortgaged property from two greedy moneylenders.

It's great to read these classics written by one of my old favourite writers. This story is so well written you could do nothing but enjoy it. Jack gives us a unique look into plantation life, head Hunter savages, a young American girl who had received great training by her father to take care of her life, and an English plantation owner needing a partnership that only the American girl could give him. You just cannot find a better aurthor than Jack London. He knows how to tell a tale and keep you interested. It is a shame that a modern aurthor has not filled the breech where he left off. Call of the Wild is one of the best books ever and this story is very good also.
This was a great read for me. I loved the adventures and the details of each person's thoughts and character. Has a lot of information to absorb on self control and reading the inner workings of people and the mind they have developed that makes each person unique. The love story was so sweet. I enjoyed it very much. 5 stars for me

Jack London always writes a good story and this book in no exception. I appreciated the detailed story line as well as the bold characters. Adventure it was, and I recommend it to anyone that enjoys a great book.
Who knew Jack London wrote comedy? I know, I know. It was not meant to be funny but the relationship between the male and female lead sent me from pure frustration with the man to amusement at both of them. Plenty of story around them too. All you have to do is adjust your mind for the time of the story. That is just the way it was back then. Let it go.
Over 40 years ago I read Call of the Wild, The Sea Wolf and White Fang which were great reads and also the more notably famous books from Jack London. After reading Adventure I had forgotten how great of a writer London was. This shorter book was really enjoyable and it truly was an Adventure. Highly recommend this one. I have a few more of London's I downloaded off for free for my and looking forward to reading them all. Nothing like a good yarn!
